| What does
Christian Counseling mean? |
| All of our staff are
committed Christians and involved in a local church. All work
at integrating their faith into their practice of counseling and
psychology. Nobody is going to "push" their point of view on
you . . . we are sensitive to where you are at and will help you
think through whatever issues you bring to the table. |
|
| What sorts
of issues do you deal with in counseling? |
| We deal with marital and
family strife, communication, and conflict resolution. We
deal with a lot of depression and anxiety-related issues, parenting,
healthy relationship building, divorce recovery, helping children
cope with the effects of divorce, etc.. We also see a number
of adolescents who are struggling with self-esteem, eating disorders
and other forms of self-punishment. |
|
| Do you do
Addiction Counseling? |
| Yes, initially we will do
an assessment but if the primary issue is alcohol or drug addiction,
we will refer to an appropriate treatment setting. After
primary treatment is completed, we will work with the recovering
person and his/her family to encourage continued
growth. |
|
| How long
will this take? |
| It is very difficult to
answer this question because we are all so different and our life
circumstances are so different. However, if you are in a
crisis, some change can happen fairly quickly. In fact most
people experience significant change in 3 - 6 months. However,
deep personal growth is a lifetime experience - we can coach you to
a point where you are free to grow without the help of a
professional therapist. |
|
| Do you
provide a "safe place" for pastors and other church leaders to share
their personal and ministry struggles? |
| Yes, by all means.
Several pastors and other Christian leaders have taken the
opportunity to pursue sessions with one of our staff. One
staff member is a pastor's wife, one has done research on clergy
burnout while working on his doctorate, and other staff have
provided a place for pastors to present counseling cases and get
input from another professional. |
|
| Is what I
share in counseling confidential? |
| Absolutely. Federal law prohibits our sharing
anything without your expressed written permission. |
